Applications of enclosed dc contactors in industrial electric vehicles

Battery and motor connection control

Connecting and disconnecting function: When the industrial electric vehicle starts and stops, the enclosed DC contactor is responsible for connecting or disconnecting the circuit between the battery and the driving motor, so that the motor can obtain or stop the supply of electric energy at the right time according to the running demand of the vehicle, thus realizing the smooth starting and safe stopping of the vehicle.
Protecting the battery and motor: When there is a malfunction or abnormal current in the vehicle, the closed DC contactor can quickly cut off the circuit, preventing the battery from being over-discharged and the motor from being damaged due to over-current, thus protecting the key components and prolonging their service life.

Energy Feedback System

Realize energy recovery: During the deceleration or braking process of the industrial electric vehicle, the drive motor can be used as a generator to convert the kinetic energy of the vehicle into electric energy, and through the enclosed DC contactor, this part of the electric energy will be fed back to the battery for storage, which improves the utilization rate of the energy, and increases the range of the vehicle.
Control of energy flow: The enclosed DC contactor can precisely control the path and timing of energy feedback to ensure the stable recovery and storage of electric energy, while avoiding overcharging and other adverse effects on the battery.

Auxiliary equipment control

Charger control: Enclosed DC contactors can be used to control the connection between the on-board charger and the battery in industrial electric vehicles. When the vehicle needs to be charged, the contactor closes to enable the charger to deliver power to the battery; after charging is complete, the contactor disconnects to ensure the safety and reliability of the charging process and prevent overcharging and other problems.
Driving other auxiliary equipment: In addition to the drive motor and charger, some auxiliary equipment on the industrial electric vehicle, such as steering power motor, brake vacuum pump, air conditioning compressor, etc., also need DC power to drive. Enclosed DC contactors can control the power on/off of these auxiliary devices according to the different operating states of the vehicle, ensuring that they work normally when needed and stop consuming power when not needed, in order to optimize the overall energy consumption of the vehicle.

Fault protection and isolation

Fault isolation: Once a fault occurs in one of the vehicle’s electrical circuits, such as a short circuit, leakage, etc., the enclosed DC contactor can respond quickly to isolate the faulty circuit from other normal circuits, avoiding the expansion of the scope of the fault, reducing the cost and difficulty of maintenance, and improving the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
System protection: When the vehicle encounters abnormal electrical conditions such as over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage, etc., the enclosed DC contactor can cut off the circuit in time to protect the vehicle’s electrical system from being damaged, maintain the vehicle’s basic operation function, and prevent the vehicle from losing control or other serious consequences due to electrical failure.

Meets special environmental requirements

Adapt to harsh working conditions: Industrial electric vehicles usually operate in harsh working environments, such as mines, construction sites, warehouses, etc., where dust, moisture, vibration and other unfavorable factors may exist. Enclosed DC contactors have good sealing and anti-vibration performance, which can effectively prevent dust and moisture from entering the interior, avoiding poor contact, short-circuit and other problems affecting its performance and life, to ensure stable operation in harsh working conditions.
Meet wide temperature range: In different seasons and working environments, industrial electric vehicles may face extremely cold or hot temperature conditions. Enclosed DC contactors with special design and material selection can work normally in a wide temperature range to ensure the reliability and stability of the vehicle’s electrical system, and will not cause misoperation or performance degradation due to temperature changes.

The advantages of enclosed DC contactors in the application of industrial electric vehicles

Better protection performance:

Dustproof: industrial electric vehicles often work in dusty environments, such as mines, construction sites, etc., open DC contactors are prone to dust into the internal, resulting in poor contact, affecting the conductive properties, and even cause short circuit failure. Closed DC contactors have good sealing, can effectively block the dust into the internal circuit to ensure the normal conduction.
Waterproof and moisture-proof: In humid environments or rainy weather, the contacts and internal components of open contactors are susceptible to moisture, leading to corrosion and degradation of insulation performance. Closed structure can prevent the intrusion of moisture, keep the internal dry, maintain good insulation and conductive properties, improve the reliability and service life of the contactor.
Stronger arc extinguishing ability: DC circuit will produce more difficult to extinguish the arc than the AC circuit at the time of disconnection, closed DC contactors are usually equipped with specialized arc extinguishing devices, such as arc extinguishing cover, magnetic blowing arc extinguishing, etc., can quickly and effectively extinguish the arc, reduce the arc on the contacts of the abrasion, prolonging the life of the contacts, to ensure that the circuit is reliably disconnected, reducing the probability of failure. In contrast, the arc extinguishing effect of the open contactor is relatively poor, the arc may continue for a longer period of time, causing more damage to the equipment.

Higher electrical insulation performance:

Higher electrical insulation performance: the closed design makes the electrical components inside the contactor better isolated from the external environment, effectively preventing the insulation performance degradation due to dust, moisture, foreign objects and other factors, greatly reducing the risk of phase-to-phase short circuit and short circuit to ground, and improving the safety and stability of the entire electrical system, which is more suitable for the complex electrical environment of industrial electric vehicles.
Better anti-vibration performance: Industrial electric vehicles will generate vibration and bumps during the driving process, the internal components of open DC contactors may be loosened and shifted due to vibration, resulting in poor contact or malfunction. Closed DC contactors have a relatively compact structure and solidly fixed internal components, which can better withstand vibration and shock to ensure that they can still work properly under adverse road conditions and maintain the stability and reliability of the electrical system.

Higher safety:

Wider range of ambient temperatures: Industrial electric vehicles may be used in extremely cold or hot environments, and enclosed DC contactors are better able to adapt to this wide range of temperatures. Its sealed structure helps to keep the internal temperature relatively stable, reducing the influence of external temperature on the performance of internal components, and at the same time preventing damage to the contactor caused by condensation due to temperature changes, ensuring that the contactor can operate stably and reliably in temperatures ranging from – 40℃ to 85℃ or even wider.
Higher safety: Enclosed DC contactors can effectively prevent people from accidentally touching the internal energized parts, reducing the risk of electric shock to the operator, improving the safety of industrial electric vehicles in the process of use and maintenance, and conforming to the requirements of the relevant safety standards and norms.
